Outdoor Recreational Vehicle Registration in effect

The ORV Registration legislation came into effect Nov. 1, 2015. This means that atv’s and snowmobiles that are on sections of local Forest Service Roads to access crown land trails, must be registered and post a registration number, either with a decal or license plate issued by ICBC. The rules for the drivers of ORV’s changed from the original proposed legislation.  Young drivers without driver’s licenses must be in the presence of a fully licensed driver.  Drivers must also have third party liability insurance.  The BC Wildlife Federation has made this very easy as they offer an annual family membership which covers all the family members with needed insurance as long as their purpose in the “bush” is to hunt or fish, meaning they are carrying appropriate fishing or hunting gear, including a valid license for that activity (where appropriate). There is considerable information on the website, www.bcwf.bc.ca.
