Despite the dwindling snow, the Lac des Roches ladies are still enjoying their snowshoe treks every Sunday. Their 8 kilometer trek on Sunday found them high above Highway 24, looking down on the lake and the scenic mountain range to the west. The lack of wildlife sightings and signs was expected as the ladies prefer to keep the level of chatter and laughter high to deter wild animals, however they did discover very fresh wolf tracks in the snow where they stopped for their picnic lunch. Many of the open fields around the lake have no snow but trails, particularly those that were ridden on this winter by snowmobilers, still have some packed snow or ice for snowshoeing. Soon the trekkers will store their snow boots and pull out their summer hiking boots for these popular Sunday outings.
